Hi, I am Ahmed Shareef, a politics, data, and law enthusiast!
I'm a junior at the University of Michigan majoring in political science with a minor in quantitative methods.
Why government?
At six years old, I sighed whenever my parents turned our only TV to the Iraqi News channel. I never understood why my parents always watched the news, even though it made them angrier and angrier. At eight, I realized they weren’t angry at the channel but at politics. This realization was a great revelation, as it previously confused me how smiling reporters can anger viewers.
Fast forward ten years later, I immigrated to the United States with my family, learned English, graduated high school, and now had to decide what I wanted to study at the University of Michigan. Still being the same confused kid who watched smiling reporters turn people angry, I decided on political science to finally understand how to transform politics into something that makes people happy rather than angry.
Here are a few of the organizations I've been fortunate enough to learn from.
Hobbies
If it isn't raining or snowing, then you will surely run into me skateboarding around campus. Aside from skating, I also enjoy listening to jazz and classical music, lifting weights, and watching movies!
As of September 2024, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" remains my favorite movie. "La La Land" and "The Fall Guy" are close seconds.
